Halloween With the Hulses

Attempted Pumpkin Carving

Hylani would have nothing to do with it. Thus the attempted part of the title. I got the following pictures, and was lucky to do so. As soon as he put his hand in the goo he immediately expressed his dislike of the texture with his ever popular "EWW mom, isgusting(disgusting). Hylani don't like it". And of course who could ignore his scoff of disgust. So priceless. He did, however, pick out the face I was to carve into the putrid pumpkin. Although I must admit I did an awful job at it. Arts and crafts aren't my thing. Next year it's Mr. Potato Head parts jammed into a pumpkin. That I'm pretty sure I can't mess up. I have no pictures of the jack-o-lantern that I butchered in an attempt to carve a master piece. Or at least to carve something a little above the level of a 3rd grader. I do have the few fleeting moments I was fortunate enough to capture of Hylani and his first experience with pumpkin guts.

Scary Clowns, Fluffy Farm Animals, and the Cutest Bug You've Ever Imagined

I would be the scary clown of course. I tried so very hard to think happy thoughts while applying the thick paste that is Halloween make-up to my face. Alas, when one is afraid of clowns one is not a good judge on what a happy clown should look like. I thought big smile consisting of huge red lips stretching to my ears would be a jolly image. I then spent the rest of the evening explaining to people that I was not intending to resemble The Joker from either of the Batman movies.
But, on a happier note, Hylani looked absolutely adorable. He was the horsey. He called himself Bungo after his favorite pony he rode downtown earlier this year. Though we could never have him keep the hood up which displayed the horse head, he still pulled it off with style. Even spent a few minutes bucking around the house neighing.
And of course, who could forget my little bumble bee. She was supposed to be a ladybug, but apparently when one gets depressed one loses interest in things like cleaning. Which is necessary when one loses said ladybug costume beneath piles and piles of laundry. Oh well, bumble bee babies are just as cute.
Here are the few pictures I managed to snap amidst the applying of make-up, packing of diaper bags and calming down fussy babies.

  2. Haha, love it! Great job with the clown make-up, too. I remember your costume last year--I think you're both creative and daring. Where can I get me some of that? I just want to squish those little cheeks on Kaela. Cuteies you guys are.
